GFCNT Annual Trophies and Awards

Participating in the annual GFCNT Trophies and Awards is a chance for anglers to showcase their skills and catch some impressive fish in Tasmanian waters. To be eligible, anglers must be GFCNT financial members and catch their fish between 1st July – 30th June each season. It is the angler's responsibility to provide the weight and pictures of their catch to the committee outside of club or sanctioned events. Club Champion – Gamefish

  • Keith Jessup Memorial Trophy
  • Criteria:    To be awarded to the heaviest gamefish caught by a financial member of the GFCNT.
  • Exclusions:    Shark and broadbill

Club Champion – Broadbill

  • Criteria:    To be awarded to the heaviest broadbill caught by a financial member of the GFCNT.

Tag and Release Overall

  • Criteria:    Open to any financial member of the GFCNT in Adult, Junior and Small fry category for their respective categories.  Overall winner is decided by an accumulation of all tagged fish across all species eligible to be tagged and released. Points are awarded as per the individual species above.  It is the angler’s responsibility to forward all properly completed tag cards to the committee, any incomplete tag cards will be returned to the angler to be rectified.
  • Exclusions:    As per GFAA rules
  • Categories:    Adult, Junior, Small Fry

Monthly Prizes

  • Criteria:    Eligible to be won by any financial member of the GFCNT. Excludes fish that win in a higher category, fish caught during any particular month are eligible for that particular month.  It is the angler’s responsibility to provided weight and pictures of capture to the committee outside of club or sanctioned events.
  • Exclusions:    Shark
  • Categories:    July – June
     

    Heaviest Species

  • Criteria:    Eligible to any financial Adult Angler of the GFCNT. Winning fish in this category are not eligible for monthly prizes but are eligible for prizes such as club champion, most meritorious, heaviest game fish caught by a lady angler etc.
  • Categories:    
    • Heaviest Shark
    • Heaviest Bluefin (Dutchy Prior Memorial Trophy)
    • Heaviest Broadbill Swordfish (Michael Hay Trophy)
    • Heaviest Albacore (Kerry Luck Memorial Trophy)
    • Heaviest Yellowfin
    • Heaviest Marlin

Heaviest Gamefish Junior and Small Fry

  • Criteria:    Eligible to any junior or small fry member of the GFCNT.  Juniors, are eligible for junior categories from the age of 11 till there 16th Birthday. Any junior paid as an Adult member cannot win the junior categories.  Small fry are eligible for small fry categories up till there 11th Birthday when they become eligible for juniors.

Turner Tournament

  • Criteria:    Members must register and pay to enter the Turner Tournament  Prizes awarded for Heaviest game fish caught between Northern Boundary: -Centre of Banks Straight–40’37 000 and Southern Boundary:-2 NM South of Schouten Island-42’23000
  • Categories:    
    • First place
    • Second place

Heaviest Game Fish caught by a Lady Angler

  • Criteria:    Eligible to any adult female financial member of the GFCNT.
  • Exclusions:    Shark

     

Tag and Release Species Winners

  • Criteria:    Open to any financial adult member of the GFCNT. Winner of an overall category can go onto win Overall Tag and Release.   Fish tagged any time of the financial year are eligible to count towards your score.
    It is the angler’s responsibility to forward all properly completed tag cards to the committee, any incomplete tag cards will be returned to the angler to be rectified.  Points awarded to each species are as follows:
    • Bill fish (marlin and broadbill) 20000
    • Southern blue fin 5000
    • Yellow fin tuna 5000
    • Albacore Tuna 100
    • Mako Sharks 1000
    • Blue Sharks 500
    • Other species as per GFAA tag points or at the committee’s discretion.

       

Highest Point Scoring Boat in Sanctioned Tournaments

  • Peter Calvert Trophy
  • Criteria:    Eligible to any member of the GFCNT who has entered his/her boat in any sanctioned event or a number of sanctioned events.  The winner is decided on the accumulation of points for fish weighed in at sanctioned events caught on a particular boat using the point score system.  The skipper need not worry about supplying weigh slips for this as the clubs take care of this for them.

Most Meritorious Capture

  • Keith Jessup Memorial Trophy
  • Criteria:    To be eligible to claim most meritorious capture fish must be eligible to claim merit pins as per the GFAA guidelines listed in the GFAA journal or fish eligible for state or Australian records.  Point score can be used as a deciding factor if there are multiple fish with the same eligibility.  The circumstances of the capture need to be taken into consideration and the story that goes with the capture.

Most Meritorious Tag and Release

  • Bob Duncombe Perpetual Trophy
  • Criteria:    A fish or number of fish tagged be it something unusual for Tasmanian waters, the time effort spent targeting a particular species, or the sizes of a particular tagged fish.
Trogun Trophy
  • Criteria:    The award for the biggest blooper of the year is eligible to be won by any financial member of the GFCNT in recognition of doing something unusual, funny or downright stupid.  The recipient must have a sense of humour.
